Southeastern Winchester Futurity

Bowling Green, KY -- The annual Southeastern Winchester Futurity is in the record books. This year the entries were a record number of competitive Texas Longhorn cattle -- 187 head. Ranches sent only their very best quality cattle to compete from as far away as Virginia, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio, Florida, Missouri, Alabama, North Carolina, Mississippi, Indiana, and Colorado.

at the Bowling Green, KY
Winchester Futurity.

Other annual Winchester Futurities are held in Indiana, Texas, Colorado and Kentucky. Each one has 10 age/sex classes. A Henry Golden Boy lever action rifle is given to the division winners. One of the organizers, Terry King, of Westville, Florida says, "We are pleased that our Winchester of the Southeast had the largest number of futurity entries of any of the Winchesters. One yearling heifer class had 37 entries."

Each entry is exhibited without halter, or manipulation, shown loose in the arena as 5 Longhorn judges score each animal. This system is very well organized and in a few hours the entire group is individually scored. The futurity was held at the Western Kentucky University Agricultural Center at Bowling Green.

Reckon So is a young herd sire use by Dickinson Cattle Co of Barnesville, Ohio. His semen and progeny will be available for purchase.
