Texas Longhorn Browsing Ability

Dickinson Cattle Company is located in the Appalachian foothills of the Ohio River Valley grass lands.  V_1344 - Shadow Jubilee getting measuredThis is the time of year farmers are bailing hay, cows are eating new growth grass, new calves are happy and the bulls will be turned with the breeding herds next week.

Those who know grasses will recognize, in this photo, Orchard grass, Kentucky Blue, Timothy and Brome. The wonderful thing about Texas Longhorn cows is they desire and take pleasure in being "browsers"   No matter how lush the grass is, they still choose to savor Thorny Black Locusts, Multiflower Rose bushes and Autumn Olive brush.

The economical factor of raising Texas Longhorns is more profitable than other breeds due to their browsing instincts.  A Texas Longhorn cow will eat low quality scrub brush, cactus and weeds while other breeds cherry pick only the best tender grasses.  As a result 20 to 40% more Texas Longhorns can be grazed on a parcel of land than other breeds.  This is also a 20 to 40% increased return on land investment---world wide.

There are many ways to profit in the cattle business.  The percentage of browse is a huge profit potential for people raising Texas Longhorns.  For semen or frozen Texas Longhorn embryos shipped anywhere in the world call.  740 758 5050,  Darol Dickinson
