DCCI - Free Tour - Longhorns - Page 5

The Dickinson family started selectively producing Texas Longhorn in 1967. Today, some very wonderful genetics have evolved as a result of over 38 years of weighing, measuring and visual evaluation. This is Win Win, a 70" horn bull that weighs a ton.

The herd at DCCI now numbers near 1400 head during the summer months. This photo shows 331 cows with calves at side. The numbers of the DCCI herd make genetic selection the broadest in the industry. The more outstanding young generation cattle to select from, the more critical the choices can be. It takes not only a great cow herd, but also great numbers to do rapid breed improvement.

The Steers
Each fall several hundred steers are for sale. The most colorful, best horn genetics are selected for exhibition steers (price $600 - $1200). The thickest are used for lean beef production. (Beef purchase info www.head2tail.com) The slender athletic type is marketed to the rodeo/roping industry at weaning time (Oct/Nov). Contact us for all types of steers available in the Fall.
