DCCI - Free Tour - Winter - Page 2

In Ohio the heavy snow may drift 4' to 6'. The rugged longhorns run and play in the snow like children (or adults) on a ski slope.

During mid winter small herds are moved for pasture conservation rotation. Longhorns drive easily at a walk or trot and can be moved 3 to 6 miles in an hour or so. Their strong legs and feet, which were proven by the 1000 mile trail drives of the 1800's, are still as rugged as ever. Very few Longhorn producers pay much attention to soundness of travel because they never raise an unsound Longhorn.
