Don Guerro, which means Man Of War in Spanish was owned by actor Robert Mitchem. His wife Dorothy commissioned me to do an oil portrait for Robert's Christmas gift. This is a photo taken for anatomy research. He was a World Champing Runner one year sired by War Chick and out of a Don Bar mare. He was athletic looking with a slick chestnut color.
I flew into the pretty little Santa Barbara airport and Dorothy drove me to their ranch at Atascadero which was up the coast north. Robert had a few dozen horses and some other actors boarded mounts there.
