This is Rambling Rose. She gave so much milk the calf couldn't drink it all. Every morning at DCC, Za Johnson went to the pasture and gave her a gallon of grain and milked a gallon of milk. One day his family drank it, the next day our family did. She would provide for our fresh rich milk needs for about 5 months. When we couldn't keep up with it we made ice cream.
When our best Congressman, Joel Hefley, was running for office Rose was penned on the lawn during a fund raiser. She donated the milk for over 15 gallons of ice cream for the heavy money donors. It was a donation that received lots of publicity for the Congressman--yes he did get elected.
Rose was sired by Mr Marlboro who was a Peeler bull weighing over a ton. Her dam was Lady Stine, an all Phillips cow. This was two families known for great milk production and beef thickness.
Today Ramblin Rose is found in the pedigree of Clear Point, Jam Box, Flair Galore, Point Wish, etc. Ramblin Rose lived in an era when size and calf weaning weights were more valuable than horn by the inch. Those were the days.
