Steers For Profit - 11/29/10
Recently Dickinson Cattle Co. took 11 cattle to process. Six were fed steers and 5 were grinders. The two attached photos are of steers that were bred, born and raised at Dickinson Cattle Co. They have had all the free range weeds, brush and Appalachian grasses they wanted with a low amount of input costs. They have been raised "Longhorn economical." From pasture they were warmed up from grass to grain for 20 days, then 100 days on whole corn and soy beans. Each steer is at or near 1300 lbs and graded low choice with a minimum of waste back fat. As freezer beef they hang at 770 to 780 lbs.
These lean, yet well marbled steers satisfy the health and taste demands of an educated consumer public. One retail Texas Longhorn beef can sell for $800 less than retail store-bought product and $600 more than Certified Angus producers are paid for prime CAB finished cattle. The difference will make ranch payments, and buy a new pickup. The effeciency of economically raised Texas Longhorns makes the profit difference.
Beef type Texas Longhorns will feed, grow and be enjoyed by the most critical consumer.
