After Fling Report

During the 45 years Dickinson Cattle Company has raised Texas Longhorns numerous special events have been held at the ranch to encourage, educate and market to clients and new producers.  A pig roast for clients was fun.  Once a Longhorn Beef tasting event was staged inviting every person on the joining US postal routes to eat free -- over 600 people came.  (Free food always gets a crowd.)  TL Judging contests, affiliate meetings, and for many years, now, a Customer Appreciation day.  It is our way of helping our valued clients to be on the front cutting edge of management and have a good enjoyable day together.  Here are photos at DCCI on Oct 6, as things happened.

Dr. Brian Shingler and wife Katy
Dr. Brian Shingler and wife Katy, of Channel 7   TV, were photographed with the gentlest steer at DCCI. Dr. Shingler has a medical practice in Wheeling, WV and raises Texas Longhorns on the family ranch in Alabama.  Every guest was photographed.

Current United States Congressman Bill Johnson
Current United States Congressman Bill Johnson attended the event and had a few positive words for the TL people. The Congressman is a conservative and we ONLY vote for conservatives.  The downsizing of  all governments is the greatest thing that could be done for our nation.  Bill is our pick to downsize.

Store
Before the demonstrations started the Fall Ohio morning was a little crisp.   Early guests enjoyed the warm Longhorns Head to Tail Store, the Gallery of Horns and the constant play theater.  If you like Longhorns, they are every direction.  Things can be purchased that aren't Walmart products. In fact Walmart won't even back order them.

Dr. Keith Berkeley

Dr. Keith Berkeley was the headline presenter.  His topic dealt with pasture eye-ball evaluation of cattle for health problems.  Watching for (often) very minor secretions, mannerisms, mobility, hair shedding, toes, eye lids, ear angles, etc.  His in depth information was of great value to old and new cattle producers.  Dr. Berkeley is a popular ITLA approved judge and has a large animal practice with 16 veterinarians not far from Washington DC.

How to build a 30 foot gate in 15 minutes for a cost of less than $12
Guests boarded the DCCI ranch bus for the first demonstration of the day, "How to build a 30 foot gate in 15 minutes for a cost of less than $12.  Guest fenceologists, Terry Bryant of Camargo, Oklahoma combined his teaching skills with DCCI men to show the best methods of building economical long lasting gates.  DCCI has 111 of these wire gap gates on the ranch.

The ranch staff all wore red matching shirts
The ranch staff all wore red matching shirts.  Wasn't hard to find them in the crowd. A lot of brisket was served, tours, and strong interest in learning demo techniques.  Guests were from at least 7 states plus England and Philippines.

Kathy Hawke bull volunteers for demo.
Cathrine Hawke furnished her young bull as a volunteer for the bloodless castration demonstration.   DCCI encourages producers to do every bloodless procedure possible.  It is the right thing to do. The volunteer bull calf was told by Cathy that the procedure would not hurt and nothing would change in his future life.

A lot of talking was everywhere.
A lot of talking was everywhere.   Pictured doing tall tales and not so tall tales are guests from Ohio, Idaho, Pennsylvania and Texas.

DCCI would like to thank the guests who came from all over to learn and enjoy.  It was a great sunny Ohio day in the Appalachian foothills -- brilliant red and gold leaves were awesome -- near Barnesville, Ohio USA, Oct 6.  And, that was the way it was.
