BREEDING GREAT TEXAS LONGHORNS -- HOW TO DO IT

All businesses are about cost of production and value of return profit. Breeding Texas Longhorns may appear as a circus, a party, a frivolous game, or a shoot-from-the-hip uncalculated hobby. Yet it can be a serious, profitable business and still be a fun family effort. It is all about the plan, the target and a solid business approach.

A wide range of goals can be reached by using semen on DCCI bulls. The top bulls in the breed can be purchased for $75 or less. Cost per conception should be under $100 per AI calf. We recommend keeping the cost down and value of progeny up.

On the DCCI sire list http://texaslonghorn.com/inventory/semen/index.cfm
there are 68 famous bulls to select from. DCCI is the one owner semen source for one stop shopping. Save money with semen orders by combining several bulls in one shipment to carefully mate each different cow for maximum genetic diversity.

Take a long cold look at these six top sires. Use proven adult sires that have matured to Championship development and size. Breeding to young (projected) bulls is always a risk. Here are recommended ways to increase profit with correct matings:
Tempter
Tempter
Rodeo Max
Rodeo Max
TEMPTER ~ Use him on cows without a lot of white. He will provide horn with the low backwards twist with large base. He is a large bull who can increase frame and total size. His horn base was the second largest of all measured in the 2012 TLMA Expo system. T2T 84 1/8"  Semen $50. RODEO MAX ~ Is not a surprise. You have seen him win 5 bronze horn trophies. His dark color is for cows where a reduction in white is needed. You have seen his calves sell for nice prices. Trust him with your embryo flushes and your best cows.
T2T 83 1/8" Semen $35.
Drag Iron
Drag Iron
Clear Win
Rodeo Max
DRAG IRON ~ one of the most flushed bulls of the year. He sires size (weighs over 2200 lbs) and strong confetti brindle dark colors. His 83.25" spread comes with a lot of twist and character. Use him to add size, dark colors, pleasant disposition and pretty faces. He will help correct high horns. Semen $75. CLEAR WIN ~ Exciting when you see his calves. They are beef, show stars, heavy muscle, straight backs like an arrow, and a hind quarter like a Siberian wash woman. Wait until you put a tape on their large base horns? Use him for body correctness, and World Championship horn.
T2T 83"   Semen $75.
Over Kill
Over Kill
Super Bowl
Super Bowl
OVER KILL ~ Black is his specialty. Over 70% of his calves are black or black spotted. Trim fronts, tall, long frames, low twisted horns and a top source for very correct show type. He is over 2100 lbs. T2T 80" Semen $35. SUPER BOWL ~ Is a proven commodity of the total package. He is the 3rd leading sire of over 70 and 80" sons, taking on all comers. If you can't do better than Super Bowl's siring record, for Pete's sake, don't do worse. T2T 79"  Semen 35.
