Drag Iron - Public Appearance
For DICKINSON CATTLE CO it was an honor to take our home-bred and raised Drag Iron to his one and only public appearance, the World Longhorn Extravaganza in Oklahoma City. It was a great honor for Drag Iron to receive three Championship Bronze for winning all three of his horn categories against world class competition.
Unlike some of the pretty slick bulls who had special show feed preparing them for the show, Drag Iron was removed from an 80 cow breeding pasture on Wednesday morning and arrived at 7:30 AM Thursday for display. He left after the awards banquet and was back with his cows the following Monday. After he was measured this is what eye witness Craig Perez wrote on face book about Drag Iron.....
"As an icon in the industry Darol Dickinson has been raising cattle almost since the time Registered Longhorns had been invented. He has seen it all. For a general prankster, passionate salesmen, and dedicated family man, Darol has made an impact on this industry that will be carried on in kind by his family. For those of you that got ambushed by his grandchildren, you know what I mean! Working on the measuring team, I get a first hand look at each and every animal that goes through. I get to pet them look at their horns, study them in a way a scientist would. Nothing would prepare me for what I would see after Drag Iron left the chute. He wasn't the biggest horned, he wasn't the longest, and wasn't the thickest horned bull there. He won his class by a little over 3" earning him three bronze trophies. That was nothing compared to what Darol would take home. As Darol stood there patiently trying to take a picture of him focused on the task at hand (probably so he could use it in advertising). An enormous crowd gathered at the viewing area. In most places two deep, each trying to get pictures of Drag Iron (Apparently they didn't know they could get a free postcard from Darol with a perfect picture of Drag Iron on it). I walked up to Darol and said, "you were probably too busy taking pictures to notice, but look around, Drag Iron just gathered the total crowd attention getting people up to the viewing area." He looked left and looked right and then looked down. Then I asked, what do you think about that? He raised his head to look at me and said, "...(speechless)..." He said nothing, but his eyes filled with tears started to run down his cheeks. For a man that has seen it all, to be so moved to bring him to tears, that makes a long haul to a measuring event all worth it! Congratulations to Drag Iron who was officially measured 83 3/8" tip to tip, 102 1/16" total, and base of 16 3/4" & 16 1/8".
At DCCI it is an honor to raise competitive sires. Semen is available from Drag Iron for $75 per straw and cows are available with his service. This Drag Iron stripped brindle stuff is pretty good. Get some. 740 758 5050
