In a market that bounces from $75 at a local sale barn to $100,000 there are some serious decisions that can be made correct and move the needle up toward the top. Although it was said that all roads lead to Rome, for a fact, some roads are shorter and faster. Data is the road map to the shortest fastest arrival in any endeavor.
In the Texas Longhorn business a ranch scales to evaluate weight progress is the easiest data to gather. For color, just trust your good eyes. For horn data, measure your own cattle and go to the Arrowheadcattlecompany site for comparisons.
With the exception of a few stragglers who don't make it to the party, Arrowhead has the most current measurements on over 1000 cattle. Start with the bulls 90" T2T and up, then migrate down to the bulls in the 85" T2T or more list, and you have plenty to pick from. Then look close. Look at age of achievement. It is about how much -- how soon with horn growth.
A total of 27 bulls have sired sons sporting 85" or better. Twenty one bulls have sired one son in this elite list. Eight bulls have sired two or more sons over 85". Three of the 8 bulls have sired 3 sons each that are in the above 85" category -- Cowboy Tuff Chex, Clear Win and Jamakizm.
An amazing observation is that the sires of three sons over 85" are pretty much unrelated. They all trace multiple times to Texas Ranger, but otherwise they are origins of different families, enough that whole lineages from each sire could develop very unrelated to the other two. However, using these leading sires the banding of the three together is a sweet possibility of the next very positive step forward.
Semen is for sale on a lot of bulls. Something in the range of 1500 Texas Longhorns bulls have been collected. Of these 1500 there are 50 who have done some very good things and about 1400 who most people don't know by name, for all the right reasons.
Decisions are being made in the next few months about AI sires. As one good recommendation, think about Clear Win. Of these three wonderful bulls he is the only one who has sired two over 90" sons! That is big. Really biiigggg!
Clear Win is great beef type with a huge hip and tiny head.
Clear Play by Clear Win out of Play The Jam by Jamakizm has dominated the Texas show circuit with his progeny. The 2018 All Age Champion ITLA Bull was a Clear Play son owned by John Oliver. Clear Win has both serious show, and beef values. Got it?
Clear Win was bred at DCC and now owned by Diamond P Ranch of Lindale, TX. Semen is available from DCC at only $100 per straw. Buy direct from DCC. If you can't do better, don't do worse.
Clear Win, sire of show Champions and 3 above 85" sons.
